2008 Stone Watersports Club National Ski Race

                                          14th September

The 2007 Stone National was a great weekend.  For 2008 we would like to make it even better, we can only do his with your help, again we will need Safety boats, Boat launchers, carpark attendants, you name it we need it, so if you would like to help out please contact Julia Olinski or Alison Smith or alternatively please contact us via the contact form on the website to register an interest.  Last year we were very fortunate with our sponsors, again we will need sponsors to make to make the national possible, No amount of sponsorship is too small.

                                                Ski Racing News 2007
This has been a great season not only for club racing but also for national and world championship also.
Dave Sewell and James Smith were selected to go to New Zealand in May this year to compete in the world Championships.  Two Stone skiers from only four British skiers selected is a fantastic acheivement.

In Formula 2 Dave Sewell won the 2007 British championships. Billy Smith won Juniors with Daryl Tyndall a close 2nd.  We also have Sam Clapson as the Dauphin Champion and Nadia Mersey coming a fantastic 3rd in her first season in Bambinos, it also looks like we have done enough to keep the Youth Team Trophy for the 3rd season.
well done everybody, keep up the good work

Hopefully we'll be seeing some more Stone skiers competing in the nationals next year.

The Stone National 2007  Dedicated to Karl Brooks  "Ski the Dream"

What a great days racing for Stone Watersports Club with 3 of our skiers not only winning their race but also winning the championship.  Dave Sewell F2, Billy Smith Juniors and Sam Clapson Dauphins. we started the main race F1,F2 and F3.  The water was extremely rough making it a slow start but never the less most kept on going even though the conditions where hard going and a struggle. Dave Sewell still managed to ski another great race coming 1st in formula 2 and winning the national championships.  In the support race it was great to see Kurt and Scott Brooks out there.  Also two of our senior skiers Clive Wyncoll and Russell Cox. It looked like it had calmed down a bit, but the start told a different story. Billy Smith and Sam Clapson who like the rough water managed to get a great start and were up at the front.
Because of the rough conditions there was a lot of non starters and skiers were struggling with the big swell running. out of 18 that started only 11 finished which included four of our stone skiers.  Russell Cox who skied really well to come 4th in the seniors. in juniors Billy Smith came 1st to win the British championships with Daryl Tyndall doing well to finish 3rd.  Sam Clapson was 1st in dauphins also taking the british title. well done boys.
The last race the bambinos race. Didn't thay do well to even go out there although it had calmed down a little.  We had two Stone bambinos, Sam Clark and Nadia Mersey who skied brilliantly to take 3rd. Well done girls.

                              The Karl Brooks Trophy
We had the councillor of Maldon, Brian Mead to give out the trophies, We took a few moments to think about Karl then Karen and Martin presented the Karl Brooks cup which is awarded to the first Stone skier to finish in the support race.  This year it was Billy Smith.
Thanks Martin, Karen, Kurt & Scott

                                                                      Club Racing
This season we held 5 club races.  The last two races we also held a Fun Race. In these two races we put the proceeds to different causes.
The first race we raised £20 for St Johns Ambulance and in the second we raised £30 for the Karl Brooks Fund. This is a fund put together by Karen and Martin Brooks to help young skiers get into the sport.

if you thought Martyn Robinson was funny in the last race that was nothing!! Skiing in nothing but a thong and a bow tie. It was a very cold day. Thats what Martin said anyway, Alison did take a look and confirmed it must have been really cold..
James & Sam were on kneeboards. James was dressed up as a nun and Sam was dressed in a suit and bowler hat.  Sophie and Georgia were on a ringo in their pyjamas. Well done to everybody for giving us a good laugh, especially Martyn for being such a great sport. He not only won the race but also raised over £160 for the Karl Brooks Fund.
